Fraud Alert

On the morning of July 26th, a Westminster company flyered the garage doors at Minotaur Village. The company's name is ULTIMATE SECURITY and the flyers were specifically directed at our community. The content of the flyer was misleading in that it appeared to have been sanctioned by the Board for distribution, and states that the company will install security alarm systems "at no cost," except for the monthly service fees of $24.95 - $34.95 a month. A board member retrieved all but 8 of these flyers from garages that afternoon, and did a little background research on the company and its unlawful solicitation in our area.
The company is based in Westminster, but has no State license to be operating legally in the state. There is another company (perhaps the parent company) in California with the same name that is currently being investigated by the Securities Exchange Commission for wrongdoing. The owner of the business was tracked down and a message was left at the number listed. This company does NOT appear to be on the up-and-up, and so the City of Lafayette was alerted. The penalty for unlawful solicitation in any area is typically a $300 fine PER INCIDENT. That does not mean that each time they visit the property they are fined $300, but for EACH FLYER distributed.
